A Charming House in Millbrook, NY
The July issue of Architectural Digest is out and “potter to the president,” Christopher Spitzmiller’s Greek Revival house in Millbrook, NY is featured. We use Spitzmiller’s handmade ceramic lamps as often as we can in our projects and always look forward to visiting his studio in Manhattan to see all of his artisans at work. Both the quality of the product and his impeccable sense of color make his lamps incredibly unique and coveted. But back to Spitzmiller’s house in Millbrook that he’s been painstakingly renovating and restoring over the past ten years. Working with architect Jonathan Parisien and interior designer Harry Heissman, he has created a dream country home replete with special furnishings that he’s collected over time and whimsical prints that give the spaces an undeniable energy. We love how cheerful the end result is–what a wonderful weekend retreat! Spitzmiller is an avid gardener, creating a lovely fenced in garden on the farm’s property. If you pick up the issue you can see some of the other rooms not included online. The library is painted a gorgeous robins egg blue. We have no doubt Christopher created custom wall colors. Isn’t this just the perfect happy but still sophisticated yellow for a living room? The very bright and happy kitchen. Notice the color of the doors!
The bedroom wallpaper was custom designed and the canopy bed once belonged to Spitzmiller’s mentor, Albert Hadley. Sister Parish’s Fireworks wallpaper covers the ceiling and the walls in one of the guest bedrooms in the attic. There are additional photos of the house not published online so make sure to pick up a copy to see the entire house. Have a great weekend!
Inspiration abounds in this charming California house!
