Five Fabulous Finds

Tucked Under
A round up of some of our favorite pieces from Art Basel Miami.

We took a quick trip down to Miami last week to walk the art fairs and see what’s new. We always find that it’s a great way to see new work, discover new artists and get inspired in a very short amount of time. The fair at the convention center is a must to see what pieces the big blue chip galleries are showing, but we especially enjoy going to the smaller fairs like NADA and Untitled, known for breaking artists. You can find many more affordable works at these fairs and it’s often where we discover artists we weren’t previously familiar with. Scroll through the gallery below to see a few of our favorites!

Shane Campbell Gallery in Chicago was showing some great work by Elliot Hundley. These pieces looked wonderful as a collection.
Yancey Richardson was showing new photographs by Ori Gersht. We love how still this series of photographs feels amidst the destruction.
Two large scale very textural paintings by Robert Kelly that caught our eye.
We were introduced to the work of Jim Verburg who was showing some beautiful pieces with Zalucky Contemporary of oil based paint on mylar suspended in front of acrylic on cotton paper.
Watercolors on gauche paper by Gladys Nilsson.
Paintings by Jonas Wood.
This photorealist gouache and the proceeding one are by Dike Blair. They were both sold!

We discovered the work of Mimi Lautner who recently had her first solo show at Blum & Poe. The pieces in the video below are from a collection of  chromatic oil and soft-pastel works on paper. Each composition begins with a coating of pastel that is scraped down to create a smooth surface that will hold the weight and structure of additional layers. We thought they were just beautiful.

We hope you enjoyed this little recap!
