Today is the last day to view the contents of the Bunny Mellon Interiors Auction at Sotheby’s. Starting Monday, the contents of Mellon’s 5 homes will be sold off to the highest bidder–and if the art and jewelry auctions are any indication, her interior pieces will go for much more than their estimated value. If you are in New York City, and have a chance to stop in, it’s a great opportunity to see a beautiful collection of furniture and collectibles amassed by one of America’s chicest and most iconic women. Mellon didn’t concern herself with what was in fashion or what others were buying at the time; she bought what she loved and created incredibly original and understated homes in the process. Her homes were a true mix of high and low–original Giacometti pieces lived side by side flea market finds. She was 103 years old when she passed away in March this year.
