The September issue of Architectural Digest is out and features the homes of some of fashion’s biggest insiders. Our favorite home featured was that of Net-a-Porter executive chairman, Natalie Massanet. Her London mansion was designed by interior designer and friend, Michael S. Smith. The two met in the 80’s when they were both first launching their careers in LA. Smith does a wonderful job of filling the house with timeless pieces made to feel current in combination with Massanet’s incredible contemporary art collection. Below, in the entrance hall, a vintage Karl Springer table sits below a custom-made Jasper light fixture.  The living room, below, is done in neutral shades of grey with a shot of mustard yellow on the windows. Here, Smith uses some very traditional upholstered furniture forms glam-ed up with a pair of Robert Lemariey mirrors and shots of metallic in the lamps, cocktail tables and accessories. A Leon Polk Smith painting next to a George I-style gilded mirror hang above the stairs, below.
In the dining room/library, the walls were lacquered a gorgeous chocolate brown and the ceiling wallpapered in a metallic paper by Gracie. We love the idea of creating a dining room that also functions as a library/reading room. As people are using their formal dining rooms less and less to throw dinner parties, we like this shift towards creating a multifunction room.
One of the only structural changes Massanet made in the house was to bring the kitchen up from the basement floor to the first floor where it has become a hub for her family to hang out together.

The art placement in this house is just perfect. We love this Robert Longo drawing displayed on the landing. Could this house be any chic-er?
