Adirondacks House

In a remote part of the Adirondack mountains, our clients built a modern farmhouse on land that has been in the family for several generations. Other family members have homes just a few minutes walk up the dirt road. It is a place where both immediate and extended family come together every summer. While the vision for the architecture of the home was pared down and minimalist, our goal was to add warmth and character. We wanted to bring color to the house in a way that felt comfortable to the client, and organic to the lush surroundings.

In the den, a photograph by Michael Gaillard of the property at dawn hangs above the sofa, where vintage Japanese and French textile pillows fill a deep and cozy slipcovered sofa. In the dining area, the custom made table is paired with a set of brutalist chairs sourced at the Paris flea market which look as if they could have been built by a local craftsman. While many of the antiques were sourced in England and France, there are also plenty of pieces that feel distinctly American -- like a green painted wicker console and a Hepplewhite table in the living room -- to keep the house feeling rooted in its surroundings.
