Antiquing
We’re on the hunt for lots of different antique pieces at the moment, but one of them is a great occasional chair for a client’s formal living room. In a room where there is typically a fair amount of upholstered pieces, it’s important to add more sculptural elements made of different materials to break up the space. The occasional chair is the perfect thing to do just that! From Rattan to Regency, below are some of our favorite pieces from last week’s escapades:
These Bamboo and Rattan occasional chairs are my personal favorite. I’m a huge lover of Caning, a furniture technique that became popular during the late 18th century when the Chinoiserie style took England by storm. Now more typically associated with Palm Beach than 18th century England, this seat would look amazing topped with a shearling throw – equal parts glam and comfort.
Louis XV Oval Back Bergeres are a classic for a reason. The proportions of this chair are so elegant. I always find the rounded-back Bergeres, above, to be very feminine, while the rectangular-back Begeres, below, to be more masculine.
These rectangular back Louis XV bergere chairs are great too. The leather upholstery and nailhead trim has me thinking this could be a great office chair.
How fun are these Hollywood Regency Spoon Back chairs, above? I guess it’s the Florida girl in me that I can’t stop swooning over these very Palm Beach feeling chairs. What a great statement piece–all they need is a little bit of touching up and an amazing fabric for the cushions.
These Hepplewhite style Heart Back Chairs are just lovely. The design, originating during the Neoclassical period, have always remained a designer favorite.
The Sheraton Shield Back Chair is another Neoclassical icon. These ones in particular are in amazing condition! They’ve stripped away the paint and have breathed new life into its mahogany frame with a bleached finish. These occasional chairs would be such a great addition to any interior. Which one is your favorite?
Simple and soft under foot, this classic floor covering is popping up everywhere from elegant city apartments to casual beach homes.
